When I was making this comic, I thought about my mother who, despite her tremendous effort and dedication, never finished her studies and how I have her full support to finish mine.
I also thought about her kampung in which child marriage was very common. I thought about her childhood friends who never got the chance to learn how to read and write, and I thought about their granddaughters who go to school and are literate.
Sometimes I grieve for the life my mother never got to live, while also weeping over my rights that are still denied. I hope that the next generation will live a better life than mine, just like me living the unlived life of my mother.
